The game supports a Dual Controller setup, a clumsy yet prophetic experiment in which you could simulate a dual-joystick controller by holding two at once, each by its center prong. You can much more accurately recreate modern FPS controls in the game Perfect Dark, a spiritual sequel to GoldenEye by the same developer. To make free aiming better but movement a little weirder, swap the mappings for X-axis L/R and L/R-C. But it might be a worthwhile tradeoff for having more familiar FPS controls.
